The Music Man
Arizona Broadway Theatre
July 26, 2008 – Saturday
Today we travel to Peoria, Arizona (Phoenix suburb) to discover a great professional dinner theater. Arizona Broadway Theatre is one of the valley’s newest performance venues and it presents full-scale productions along with providing gourmet meals served by gracious wait-staff.
Today we enjoy lunch at the theatre and then settle in for "Music Man". This show is a charming tribute to a bygone era in Smalltown, USA. Follow fast-talking traveling salesman Harold Hill as he cons the people of River City, Iowa into buying instruments and uniforms for a boys’ band he vows to organize – despite his not knowing a trombone from a treble clef. His plans to skip town with the cash are foiled when he falls for Marian the librarian, who transforms him into a respectable citizen by curtain’s fall.
This award-winning, critically acclaimed Broadway classic is an all-American institution, thanks to its quirky characters, delightfully predictable dramatic situations, and one-of-a-kind nostalgic score of rousing marches, barbershop quartets and sentimental ballads which have become popular standards.
